Description & Features
Sawyer MXS Plain Oar Shaft is built for rowers who want a durable, lightweight composite oar shaft with the flexibility to create a custom setup. It delivers dependable strength, responsive flex, and long-term durability. This makes it a reliable choice for drift boats, fishing rafts, whitewater rafts, and expedition river rigs.
Built with longitudinal fiberglass, the MXS Plain provides a strong, responsive feel without unnecessary weight. The plain no X-weave construction keeps the shaft performance-focused while maintaining the durability needed for real river use.
Sold individually. Oar blades sold separately.
Oar Shaft Length
Composite oar shaft lengths are sized to the fully assembled overall length of the oar with a standard 30" oar blade and handle attached, so if you want a 9' oar, order a 9' composite shaft.

Why Choose the MXS Plain Oar Shaft?
The MXS Plain offers the durability and responsiveness of a fiberglass composite shaft without the added cost of carbon weave construction. Its modular Tite-Set system allows you to pair the shaft with the blade that best fits your boat and rowing style, creating a custom oar built for your specific needs. The result is a versatile rowing system that performs equally well on technical whitewater, fishing rivers, and multi-day expeditions.
Materials & Construction
Longitudinal Fiberglass
Longitudinal Fiberglass Shaft Construction
This construction uses fiberglass fibers aligned lengthwise along the shaft to maximize strength, flex consistency, and durability. By running fibers longitudinally, the shaft maintains a smooth, predictable bend under load while resisting fatigue and failure over time. The result is a balanced flex profile that feels responsive and forgiving on each stroke, ideal for long days and variable river conditions.
Fiberglass Shaft Reinforcement
Standard fiberglass shaft reinforcement adds durability and protection from repeated loads and impacts. It helps the oar hold up through demanding rowing conditions and long days on the water.
Rope Wrap & Rubber Stop
A rope wrap with a rubber stop protects the shaft at the oarlock contact point while improving balance and control. The stop prevents the oar from slipping through the oarlock when released, keeping your oar secure and within reach. This setup reduces wear and maintains consistent performance over time.
