Sawyer's History

Experience the Feel of Water with Sawyer

At Sawyer, we offer a complete line of modern and traditional products built to move any watercraft—whether rowing a drift boat, paddling a canoe, gliding on a SUP, or anything in between. Every paddle and oar is designed and handcrafted in Talent, Oregon, USA, using only the highest-quality materials. From our hands to yours, we bring craftsmanship, innovation, and deep attention to detail to every product we make.

We’re proud of our people, our heritage, and our stewardship of the environment. When you choose Sawyer, you’re choosing authenticity—genuine, American-made products built to last and truly one of a kind.

While wood has long been the material of choice for oars due to its lightweight strength, buoyancy, and flexibility, advancements in material science have opened new doors. At Sawyer, we’ve fused the timeless feel of wood with the modern strength of carbon fiber to create innovative hybrids that reflect over 58 years of craftsmanship and paddling experience. Whether you row, paddle, or surf, our gear is built by water lovers to meet and exceed your performance needs.

Leadership Rooted in Experience

Sawyer Paddles and Oars LLC and our retail hub, Sawyer Station, are co-owned by Zac Kauffman and Israel Ramirez—longtime team members since 2012 and active partners since 2017. Their leadership spans every corner of the company, from the varnish room to the design process to the sales floor. Together, they’ve helped bring legendary products like the SquareTop, Smoker Bandit, MXG, Polecat, and DuraMax blades to life.

Innovation Meets Tradition

We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. By merging cutting-edge materials with techniques honed over five decades, we craft the finest paddles, oars, and oarlocks for wherever your adventure takes you. Our flagship retail store, Sawyer Station, opened in 2014, just 500 feet from the Rogue River in Gold Hill, Oregon. It’s your one-stop shop for river-ready gear and expert advice.

Stop by the Sawyer Station or connect with us online—we’d love to help you gear up. Thanks for choosing Sawyer, and we’ll see you on the water!
